Every motorcycle manufacturer has a successful formula to bank on. For example, for KTM it has been the Duke and the Pulsar for Bajaj. Similarly, for Suzuki, it has been the Gixxer. This model has been the most popular model in their line-up. For 2019, Suzuki has gone one step further and given its fully-faired sports motorcycle a makeover to help it appeal to a wider audience looking for a commuter sports bike. The bike also gets new features and feels sportier to ride.
Packed neatly within the frame is a 154.9cc, single-cylinder engine that produces 13.9bhp and 14Nm of torque. The motor is air-cooled and comes paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Suzuki Gixxer SF is BSIV-compliant.
The Gixxer SF is one sharp-looking motorcycle, viewed from any angle. At the front, it boasts of a sharp, distinctive LED headlamp. It gets a gloss black fairing above the headlight with the stubby visor of course. The full fairing along the sides is very neat and stylish and towards the rear, the tail section is sleek. We also particularly like the twin-port exhaust muffler with some chrome on the exhaust tip. At the rear, it sports a well designed LED tail lamp. The digital instrument cluster is different from before and looks like the screen of a smartphone. The shift light is positioned in the middle. It shows a lot of information like the speedometer, trip meters, gear position indicator, Eco/Power indicator and a tachometer. As far as the quality of the switchgear is concerned, there is nothing to find fault with. In terms of dimensions, the Gixxer SF is 2025mm in length, 715mm in width and 1035mm in height. Throttle response in impressive and the bike pulls without any fuss. It also has a strong mid-range and the engine is very smooth. We also liked the sound produced from the exhaust. And it can manage a top speed of 140kph. The gearbox is a lot of fun to use. At 146kgs, the bike feels light and nimble too. The ground clearance, on the other hand, is 165mm, while the bike has a wheelbase of 1340mm and a seat height of 795mm.
The Suzuki Gixxer SF has a fuel tank capacity of 12 litres. In terms of mileage, the Suzuki Gixxer SF is capable of returning 46kmpl by ARAI, in BSIV guise.
Ergonomically, the Gixxer SF is similar to that of the regular Gixxer. It gets a high-set handlebar, and an upright riding position. Even the seat and the tank are placed like they are on the regular version. The rear-view mirrors are positioned on the fairing of the bike, giving you a great view of what's behind. The seating posture too is similar to that of the regular Gixxer. The bike handles very well, and around corners, it feels confidence inspiring with a lot of grip on offer from the MRF tyres. The ride quality is perfect; it soaks in ruts and road imperfections with aplomb. At high speeds, the bike feels sure-footed and the brakes offer good bite. At the front, the bike rides on telescopic oil-damped suspension, while the rear gets a swing-arm type mono suspension. As far as the chassis is concerned, it is built around a diamond-type frame. The Gixxer SF runs on 100/80R-17 tyres at the front and 140/60R R-17 tyres at the rear. Retardation duties are taken care of by disc brakes at the front and at the rear.
